Default Sky+, Dolby 5.1 and surround sound question

I have Sky+ and just bought 5 speaker kit, plus sub woofer. I have a
separate Dansai 1010 DVD player.

Am I right that if I hook the speaker system upto th Sky+ it will then
play - depending on of the movie is in 5.1 dolby surround sound - play
it with all the audio effects?
Anyone also know - can I plug the dvd player through the sky+ so if I
play 5.1 based dvd's - I can get the effect through the sound system.

Yes, if the speakers have a DD 5.1 amp.

No, you must connect both to the amp using digital connectors for the
DD 5.1. You may need an adaptor for the two optical cables if the DVD
player and amp don't use coax, or if you can't connect the player and
amp using 6 phono leads for the DD 5.1
