Sky vs. Freeview

Has anyone here used Freeview and changed to Sky?

I was thinking about getting digital TV before Xmas, but can't decide which to
go for.

Any advice appreciated.

Look at the Sky channels and make your own mind up. Are they worth the extra
to you? Only you can say that.

Depends what channels you are looking for and how much you want to pay. Sky
dosent have as many decent free channels but has a better TV guide etc.
Freeview is easier to install and in my opinion has better channels.

i.e ITV2 you cant get on sky unless you subscribe

If you want to pay montly then go for sky but i wouldnt just get a sky box &
dish just for the free channels unless you are unable to get freeview

No but I tried the Twin Decoder for a while earlier this year and soon
gave up on it. The software is truly appalling and last I heard the EPG
was still limited to now/next. For a free digital service you get what
you pay for. It's better than a stick in the eye but not a patch on
Sky.

It seemed about the same to me. The only exception was ITV. For some
reason my box couldn't handle it. I don't know why - it actually seemed
as if my box was having problems decoding the stream. The signal was
fine.

Best thing to do first is to see if you can get freeview, if you can't
get a good signal you have no alternative, you will have to get sky.

This may sound like a stupid question, but is it possible to receive BBC
channels through Freeview? Is it possible to see SKY Channels through
Freeview?

BBC Channels through Freeview...Yes

Sky channels through Freeview...Only cheapo crap FTA news and stuff,(That's
why it's called FREEview and not *paythroughthenoseview* ;-)

Digital Terrestrial TV (Set top box usually but some new TV's have digital
tuners already incorporated)

In my experience, picture quality is as good on digital satellite as on
digital terrestrial (or vice versa). However, every so often the digital
terrestrial picture would break up or freeze. I don't know whether this
is caused by birds sitting on my aerial or whatever, but the Sky signal
is more robust.

From the roof of my house, Winter Hill transmitter can easily be seen so
I know it's not that I live in a poor signal area. Your mileage,
however, may and probably will vary.
