Default Sound problem and Fan with SKy+

Yesterday the sound on my sound box was making a few pops and then going
off...the picture is fine, it is just the sound that is going. When I change
channel the sound comes back on for a few minutes (sometimes seconds) and
then pops and goes off again.

The fan at the back doesn't seem to be spinning, and I'm wondering if it's
causing the 'sound chip' to overheat and cut-out.

I rang Sky and they are sending an engineer out of Friday. All I think he
needs to do is replace the fan...?

Is it possible that he will replace my 3 week old Sky+ box with an old
refurbished one...is there any advice on how to handle the engineer when he
arrives?

Cheers

Yes, it's what they do as a first course of action.

You could try nonchalantly tossing a flick knife from hand to hand,
mentioning how you really, really wouldn't want a refurb as it's only a
few weeks old.

The fan dosent normally come on, the sound fault is obviously seperate. The
picture isnt blocking or anything ?

Just ask the engineer if its a new box, two ways of telling. If he brings it
in a Sky + box etc it can be a new box, but they do re package them. When
he plugs it in see if the fan comes on. If it does, this is normally a good
way of telling if its brand new.

The ******* gave me a refurbished box....when I complained he said "I can't
do anything about it, that's the way Sky work". So I've now got a
refurbished box....Hopefully it'll be alright....in 11 months time just
before my warranty runs out, I think I'll smash it up and get another
refurbished box....just so that I can get something a bit newer.
