I've had my update and pleased to say the dual recording works
and I didn't lose my recordings that were made before the update.

Best bet is to DIY.

Me too. I also forced an update and it didn't take. On Digital Spy
someone has said that not all machines might be enabled yet.

Do *not* "force an upgrade". It will get the the oldest version of the
software being broadcast, not the lastest.

Put it in stand-by for an hour, then reboot (don't hold down Backup). This
is your best chance of getting the latest version.

Didn't know that. Sounds bizarre even by Sky standards. Why broadcast the
previous version? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Well it's plugged into a timed socket. It's powered down over week-day nights
and for one hour at the weekend (supposedly that gives it a chance to catch
an update). It's been on standby most of today. Still hasn't updated.

New software is downloaded into the SKY+ and then either straight away or at
some future point replaces the existing OS. As I understand it when you force an
upgrade all you are doing is makign the digibox install the OS from the storage area
not actually downloading the new OS which I believe is only transmitted during the
early hours and then perhaps targetted to specific batches of machines..
So if the new OS has already been downloaded by your SKY+ then a forced update
will get the results you are after otherwise all you are doing is replacing the current OS
with the same one.

So that if an update goes terribly, terribly wrong, a downgrade can easily
forced.

Well there's your problem - leave it turned on!

No - you wouldn't have to sit there for ten minutes if that were the case.
It *does* do a fresh download, but not necessarily of the latest version.

Holding down backup forces it to download the software - it's the only way
to repair a corrupt install.

No, at least one software version for every model of box is constantly
being broadcast in a cycle.

and then perhaps
targetted to specific batches of machines..

It's the "reboot now" signal which can be targeted.

As a general rule, yes. However on occasions I have seen boxes behave
in a way that suggests that there was no software being transmitted at
all. This could be one of those occasions.
