Default News Item: Media Guardian - BBC talks to buy 24 collapse

We don't know the full truth of it, but there are 2 factors:

- The BBC being "unencrypted" has upset NewsCorp / Fox.
- Fox got greedy and asked for too much money.

Personally, I would love to see "24" on FIVE.

Not much of a loss, by all accounts. Fox wanted to charge OTT for the
3rd series that wasn't doing that well in the US - the broadcasting to
Europe bit was a smokescreen, IMHO. In any event, the second series was
pretty poor after the first, so I don't see this as a big loss. I gave
up on series 2 half way through - way too boring and formulaic. That's
the trouble with US shows - they're flogged to death.

Now the Beeb will have put something hopefully better on in its place.

I think you missed out on S2, IMO is got better as it progressed. The same
is happening with S3, a little slow to start but it is getting pretty good
again now (albeit pretty predictable)

But each episode would be an hour long instead of 40 minutes - real time ;o)

Yes, but the Article is about 24, not "News 24".

24 - the series, not News 24, is being discussed here.

Would it? With Five's dismal record of editing (i.e. butchering)?

If Five show it, it will be on at 8:00 pm for about 15 weeks before
vanishing without trace. Channel 4 would edit it for a tea time
audience, show 3 episodes and then broadcast the rest in the
prestigous 2 am slot in three years time.
