Default Sky and standards of service question. (rant)

My apologies if this is the wrong ng for a rant.

I dont use sky and I detest Murdoch and all that he has spawned.
FWIW, I watch tv about 2 hrs per week max.

My mum is 74 and registered blind. She's had, until recently, a subscription
to sky for quite some years. She lost her sight 1999/2000 but kept her sky
subscription going for the sake of visting children, grandchildren etc.
Since March this year she has not been able to receive any viewing from Sky
but her regular monthly payment was made. She contacted them by phone in
March,April, May, June and July. On each occasion she was told that a new
card would be sent to her which would restore her sky viewing. No card was
ever received.
In August my mother cancelled her sub and also the dd (or sto, don't know
which). In September she received a letter from sky advising of a failed dd
(or sto) and that £14.04 was owing.
Mum telephoned sky again and went through the menu driven fone system again
until she eventually spoke to a real person to explain the situation.
Result, as one might expect, zilch.
She has now received a letter from a debt collection agency which has
worried her greatly. She has asked me to look into the matter and has passed
me the docs which are few.
I telephoned sky today and waded through the awful phone system and
eventually got to speak with a female with attitude and little understanding
of the English language. I explained the situation as best I could and was
told curtly "Yo o da munny, you pay or we send collection agent". Sky have
no knowledge of previous contact from my mother. I have a recording of this
conversation.
I'm now a bit in the dark over this! For 14 quid I'd rather pay and be done
with it, but I really, really hate the heavy handed attitude. And the lack
of customer service. And Murdoch.
Might be interesting to have sky take a 74yo blind woman to court for £14,
but mum couldn't stand that and I don't need the agg.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Nic.

You should write to Sky detailing the problems, the dates and the
calls made. Inform them that unless they make a full refund of all
monies paid since the card originally stopped working, and refund you
for wasted phone calls etc., and cancel all debt collection
proceedings and apologise in writing, all within 14 days, then you
will see them in your local county court on the 15th day.
If they don't comply then file a case in the said court. You will win,
without any doubt whatsoever. Use your phone bill as supporting
evidence of calls made.

Nic
You say the girl with attitude could hardly speak English, this is because
about 40% of the calls are diverted to a call centre in India, I had this
and asked to be transferred to a supervisor, they will then divert you back
to Scotland.
Or did you mean the person couldn't speak much English because she was
Scottish??

Thanks PhilÃ…
and also my thanks to those others who have replied.
The girl I spoke to was most certainly not a Scot!
Nic.
