Default Missing channels on new SKY+ insstallation

I had SKY + installed today and have 2 problems:-

a) many channels are intermiitent and , if they appear at all, can take 30s
or so to appear.
b) the box goes to standby after 5 minutes or so.

An engineer is booked to come out on Friday but does anyone have any ideas
to avoid me waiting till then?

Rgds, Tony

Have you any recordings you wish to keep?

If not, try a Full System Reset

(Services 401 Select)

Force a software update. It's quite likely that you've got an old
version of the firmware still. You do this by pulling the power, wait
thirty seconds and re-power but holding the 'Backup' button on the front
of the receiver (not the remote). After a short while a message will
appear telling you that the software is being updated. You can let go of
the button now.

It takes up to 10 mins to download. After it's finished updating it will
switch itself back to standby. Wait a few minutes then bring it back on
with the Sky button, or the power button. With luck all your glitches
will be gone.

NB: The message only appears if you are connecting via SCART.

Thanks for the tips.

Paul, if I do the system reset ; the box switches itself off part way
through housekeeping.

Mark, I cannot get the box to switch back on while I am holding the Backup
button.

Do you have any other ideas?

Tony,

While you did the software update suggested by Mark, were all lights on the
front of the box lit, because if they were it was in progress and this is
normal.

As Alan said, if you are only connected by the normal RF leads the box does
appear to be switched off, you will only see the message through the scart
lead/AV channel

BTW what is your OS and EPG Versions

Mine are
OS 1.3.089
EPG Sky + 1.24.i1

No, it's not a matter of turning it back on, it's a matter of reapplying
the power. That is, pull the power lead out of the back of the player to
power down, wait thirty seconds, then press and hold the backup button
on the front of the box and then put the power lead back into the back
of the box without letting go of the backup button till the downloading
message appears on the screen. This bit can be awkward if you've got a
TV with auto switches back to its tuner when you pull the power on the
Sky box. You might have to manualy switch the TV back to AV1, or
whatever you've got your Sky box plugged into on your TV, in order to
see the message appear so you know when let go of the button. If that
makes any sense?

If a software reload (see the FAQ) has done nothing then the drive is
probably dead.
