Default ITN etc STILL in 4:3

Does anyone know why INT (on ITV, C4 and C5) is not in 16:9? Same goes for
GMTV and Sky news

Since these are news channels it would be stupid to broadcast in 16:9. Look
at what news is made up of...

Archive footage - How much footage from the last 50 years is in widescreen?
1%?
Amateur footage - People's camcorders. Most camcorders in circulation don't
do 16:9.
Feeds from foreign channels/international news agencies - Depending on the
country, this is very likely to be 4:3.

Basically, the only thing that would be widescreen is the studio links. It
would look as stupid as News 24 does.

It's terrible that they're still 16:9 homophobic

So they can't go and invest in a pile of ARCs, and upgrade their equipment
for 16:9 anamorphic transmission.

GMTV's studio is 16:9 capable, but AIUI internal ITV politics prevent
them from 'showing up' ITN by broadcasting in widescreen.
The same is true for London Today/Tonight local news. That studio has
been 16:9 equipped for over two years now. In fact the ITV National
weather is also produced in there, and that's 16:9 anamorphic.

As for Sky News, who knows ?
