Default Anyone noticed?? (Sky+)

First time in while I'd pressed the blue button to *Keep* the recording and
noticed the new feature?
Remembering the thread on how many people had accidently pressed yellow and
deleted a programme,I noticed tonight Sky have added the feature where you
have to enter your pin to delete it.

Praise where praise is due for once ;-)

Anyone noticed (or know) when this became possible?

Just tried this on mine and it still deletes after one press of the yellow
button after being on `keep`.

What version of the software are you on?

Mine is,
Operating System: 1.3.OBA
Software Version: sky+ 1.25 d

Interestingly, I'm at least a version behind you (OS 1.3.OB9, SV
Sky+1.24.i1) and mine works. Possibly they made a mistake and dropped this
feature, or did they drop it to make room for something else? Since I
assume the OS is kept on Flash memory since you can swap out the HD on whim.
I used to work on a very old IBM system, and due to the system limitations,
whenever our customer asked for an enhancement, we had to ask what 'feature'
they were willing to give up to make room for it.

Well you learn something everyday, don`t you!
Looking around the menus I find under `Parental Control` you can set up pin
protection to protect `Kept` programmes`.
How did I miss that!

Actually, I don't have pin protection turned on, so I don't get asked for a
pin, just to confirm that I really want to delete the program. Being a
lonely single, I don't have the need. But I could see if you had a spouse
or kiddies where it would come in handy.

Strange! Mine is the same exactly.

Just tried deleting a *Keep* programme again and :

For your information To delete this programme Enter your pin _ _ _ _ or
press Back up to cancel
Looks like something has been added on some software but not on others?

Heh Indeed!

Just found it myself,I guess it has nothing to do do with the Parental
Control for children tho' and just an added feature been hidden in there!

You'd think Sky would have let us know ;-)

I am not sure this is a new feature as mine has always asked for a pin to
delete kept items .

No its an option. Mine used to do this but I turned the option off -
now it doesn't require a PIN to delete a recording which is "kept"

I've been using this feature since I got the box about 18 months ago -
I never do any recordings that aren't 'kept' until I delete them. VERY
handy with the kids and spouse around.

One flaw with the password protection is that it's possible to have a
programme that is set up to be recorded and 'kept' deleted
automatically when someone tries to schedule another recording at the
same time - and this is possible without the need for the PIN number,
which is a bit of a pain. Fortunately the kids haven't spotted this
yet so I've not missed any recordings, but I'm sure it's only a matter
of time before I get home to watch Dead Like Me and find Dragonball Z
recorded instead...
