Default Why do some channels need the card to be paired with the digibox?

I have a FTV that wasn't paired with my box.
With ITV2 I get the message "This is the wrong card".
Sky1 gets the message "Call to upgrade..."

Why should you care, as you can't get them anyway?

This is normal. You can't get either channel without a subscription.

Your card gives you the three FTV channels and they are not restricted
to any particular box.

For some reason Sky don't want to make it possible for a paying Sky
subscriber to watch Sky programmes from Sky Premium packages
(sport/movies) in a different Sky box to their own like you could in
the old analogue days .........

And does anyone know why Irish viewers can't get FTV cards ?
The only way they can view the FTV channels is by subscribing to
a package, could the same thing not happen in Britain some day ?

There is specific provision on the statute book to stop it happening.

I suspect Sky are worried that a domestic punter could lend his local pub
a Sky card with the sports channels enabled, on the evening of some
'crucial' sporting event, and stick it in the pub's digibox.

Mind you, nothing to stop the same punter taking the whole digibox and card
to the pub.

Indeed. Or, more likely, two or more workmates sharing the same
premium card and sub.
