For Sky+ users anyway:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3256945.stm *Some have pointed out that fast-forwarding through the ads at the start of a DVD now contravenes the law. And using a file-sharing service is an infringement, although one that, as yet, is likely to go unpunished.* How long before Sky decide to implement stopping us skipping through their adverts?? |

About 1 week before half the Sky+ subscribers decide to ditch the service, I'd imagine. One of the main pluses of time-shifting is to avoid adverts, and if you couldn't do that, what's the point? -- Paul 'US Sitcom Fan' Hyett |

Sounds like ******** to me. On what basis do these 'some' argue that? How long before Sky decide to implement stopping us skipping through their adverts?? I believe they wouldnt do this since it wouyld encourage people to go to SKY+ alternatives, and also that adverse publicity would rule this out, but if it ever happens I'll cancel the day they do it. Wouldnt take much of a percentage doing the same thing to make them change their minds. There is enough thats crappy about SKy without having to make other stuff up that they arent doing. -- Tumbleweed Remove theobvious before replying (but no email reply necessary to newsgroups) |

Charlie I wondered that. What about the ones you'd hire from a blockbuster etc. Do they? -- Tumbleweed Remove theobvious before replying (but no email reply necessary to newsgroups) |

*Some have pointed out that fast-forwarding through the ads at the start of a DVD now contravenes the law. I read that too and really wondered how they are going to force us to do this? What will the next step be I wonder? Force us to read all the advertisements in magazine and newspapers? Does anybody have any DVDs with ads at the start? I'm pretty sure I don't... Some of my Region 3 DVD's have some trailers you can't skip, and as trailers are ads for movies... :-) Charlie -- --Bigarbel-- Check out my recent edit: http://www.bigar.co.uk |

Apparently,This was to be implemented on digital STB's in the USA much like Sky PPV I guess. Usually does'nt take long for USA *ideas* to reach Sky :-( http://www.bigar.co.uk |

If they all had unskippable ads I'd stop buying them. MJ |
