Default Sky+ Video Sender

Hi folks,

Does anyone use a video sender to transmit pictures to another telly? If
so, what do you use and what is the quality like?

Also, anyone used one transmitting at a shallow angle though a double block
external wall? And anyone had any interference problems with a home
wireless network?

I'm thinking of a Philips VL 1200, 1400 or Gigavideo 70 from
letsautomate.com. So any views on any of those appreciated.

Cheers,

I use a DigiSender (£80 from Argos) with my Sky Plus and in conjunction with
a 2nd sky plus remote to enable full functionality of the digi box from the
bedroom. It uses the 2.4Ghz band and as long as you use a scart cable
between both the digi box and the digisender AND the 2nd TV and the receiver
you should get perfect reception and sound. I don't know what interference
if any, you'd get with a home wireless network though but I'm of the opinion
that this uses the same 2.4Ghz band. My digi sender does allow me to select
1 of 2 channels so this may over come that potential problem. I know that I
have interference when I get a mobile call or text message but as this is
only momentary and not very regularly, it's not an issue. I have heard that
some people get some interference with their microwaves when the 2nd TV is
in, or near to, the kitchen. Personally, I've never had a problem with my
microwave as my 2nd TV is in the bedroom upstairs.

Hope that helps.

I have the Argos digisender, with a receiver in the kitchen and in another
room on the ground floor. Picture is normally as good as if direct from the
digibox (Sky+). It's connected via the scart video out, so my daughter can
watch baby Mozart etc in the other rooms.

I get some interference from something on the kitchen TV occasionally which
manifests itself as two horizontal white lines about 1/3 and 2/3 of the way
up the screen. I have never tracked this down to anything in the house (DECT
phones, baby alarms etc), and switching between the 4 transmission channels
makes little difference. Repositioning the receiver does, but mine's fixed
to the top of the TV and it doesn't bother me enough to fiddle with it any
further. Microwaves definitely interfere in a major way if the receiver is
close - the kitchen TV is affected by ours and the neighbours, to a lesser
extent, through the wall.

No - but the kitchen receiver is two supporting walls away and an internal
supporting wall runs much of the length of the signal path, about 40 feet in
total. I think you'll be fine (and Argos will give you your money back if
you're not).

Give it a try. The facility to use Sky + from all the other rooms is
fantastic, especially for the peanuts cost.

How have you got the remote wired up to enable this?

The Argos digisenders have a return (wireless) path to transmit the
remote signals back, with an emitter that you plonk in front of the
digibox.

Thanks for all the info.

I hadn't thought of Argos. And I can just take it back if it doesn't work
out.

Cheers

Cripes! That sounds really great. And it's on sale at £69!

They're pretty fantastic, I'm surprised more people don't (apparently) know
about them. Just about every Sky / cable subscriber who's visited my house
has made a subsequent trip to Argos....

The downside, of course, is that you can't watch different Sky channels on
them - but personally we have never found this to be an issue, since, even
if we are watching different TVs (rare), one of us will be watching a
terrestrial channel.

I occasionally find the kitchen TV won't transmit the remote signal back
and have to fiddle with the position of the receiver - but it's a long way
away from the sender through major walls, and the other TV is always fine.

The units are placky, but tiny. The alternative, a Sky box and second
(third, fourth) subscription is not always even viable - I have nowhere in
the kitchen to put one. The receiver in my kitchen is blue tacked on top
of a 14" TV fixed to the wall, which is really neat. The cost (and size)
of second (third, fourth) Sky+ boxes doesn't even bear thinking about......

I echo Fergers comments. I love mine, its brilliant and the ability to lie
in bed in the morning, and flick on my sky box, change channels, view my
recorded shows, set up new recordings etc without getting up is
fantastic. The same goes for watching sky in bed at night. No need to get up
to switch off the sky box downstairs or whenever you wish you change to one
of the more, ahem, specialist channels.

I secured my "magic eye" to the top of the digi box with sellotape so that
its always in the right position to transfer the remote control signal to
the digi box. Also another good thing about the digisenders (this is one for
the women) is that the "sending" box - that's the one connected to the
digibox - can be secreted away out of sight as it has no need to be visible.
It is only the "receiving" box attached to the second telly that needs to be
somewhere visible so that it can send the remote control signal to the magic
eye and then to the digibox.

Great bit of kit, all of my sky enabled friends and family have one too and
they love them as well.
