Default solus P2 FTV cards switch off

just to see what the £23. Sky con was about I phoned the Sky number on
http://www.free2view.tv/

They said they only dealt with ex subscription cards but said both P1 & P2
cards would be turned off

Did not even kbow what a Solus card was , but tried to sell me a £23 new
card,,, said I would wait until my solus P2 card was switched off

Does anyone have the new £23 card?, does it have just the same channels as
the solus card, there was a rumour it would be the same channels as
terrestrial digital ( just I would have liked to see the rugby on ITV2)

Just received copy of half hour debate at Westminster 21st Oct Television
reception (rural areas) - could post if of any interest to anyone. We are
putting it to our MP that if folk have to pay the £23.50p then it would only
be fair that BBC encrypted all ftv channels and everyone had to pay them for
a card seperate to skys. Removing the free service from sky's package would
at least make it a level playing field for all. - Mike

What a nonsensical argument. The more obvious solution is that ITV, C4 & C5 go
FTA like the BBC & then nobody will need to buy a card.

If so I would have expected to see some on-screen warning by now.

Because the payments for programming rights for FTA satellite transmission,
are more than the cost of FTV encryption. Even more of a problem for C4 and
5 because they are not on Astra 2D (which has a much tighter footprint),
although of course the Beeb have managed it. (excluding the issues relating
to Scottish PL football, and some Hollywood film studios)

ITV, C4, and 5 will go FTA only if it benefits them (rather than the viewers).

Because of rights agreements and issues that mean they must encrypt. Cost
of encryption is cheaper than the [rights] costs of not encrypting.

How do you know the BBC has "managed it" (ie won't be paying out more in
rights costs than it saves in encryption costs?
