Default No Satellite Signal received - box or dish?

My setup - an old Grundig digibox (without subscription) connected to
a communal dish in a block of flats. The picture broke up a bit when I
first installed it around 9 months ago, and got worse as time went on.
It now says no signal is being received. I've tried playing with the
wire and replacing it but still nothing. When I first switch on the
box there's a little green light inside the box which flashes on, and
used to stay on but that now goes out almost immediately after
plugging it in. I've not heard of anyone else in the flats with a
problem with the dish, so is it my box? Is there a way to do maybe a
hardware reset (I have unplugged it but that makes no difference). The
box is a few years old so returning it to Sky is not an option.

As I live in flats, I've heard Sky will not do the installation for me
if I take out a subscription. Is this true, and I can I just play
ignorant and say I don't know whether it's communal or not when I sign
up? Will the installer just show up, see it's a communal ariel,
breathe a sigh of relief that he doesn't have to put up a dish and
just plug in a new box? If not, will an independent installer charge
me more? TIA

Surely.

Yes. You should have no trouble with this and can get a new box fitted
for £1 if you subscribe or for £120 if you don't. You could also just
find a used box somewhere for £25 and up.
