Default sky+ question

I am about to order this and hope domeone can answer a few Q's for me

1. What is the best way to order, will an independent do it for £1 if I
quote the online deal
2. Will it actually work properly? My current digibox (sony) when i program
it to switch to a particular channel to record a programme on VHS always
arrives at the channel about 5 mins after the programme has started and has
the annoying sky graphic on it for a few mins more. Does the sky+ box record
from when the programme starts or from when it THINKS it starts.
3. Does it record in 5.1 or is that only if you watch at the time.
4. What sort of digital connection is needed optical or coaxial and do sky
provide this as part of the installation

Thanks for any help you can provide

1) Order online if you think you do not need anything other than a standard install.
A SKY authorised agent will not offer the £1 deal however they should be able
to offer all the other deals going.

2) SKY+ follows the EPG data each channel sends out, if that data is accurate
then there are no problems. However some channels deliberately overrun
programming to spoil the start times of others, SKY+ has selectable padding
which can be added to the start/stop recording times there is also a manual
timer.

3) SKY+ records the original bitstream data, what ever was transmitted in the
original broadcast will be there in the recording, except for the flags that tell
the STB to generate the red active dots etc which is very welcome

4) SKY+ requires an optical lead for DD5.1 which is not supplied. It also
has twin phonos of course for analogue audio output.

Why would they? You have to go through sky to get the £1 deal

2. Will it actually work properly? My current digibox (sony) when i

VHS always arrives at the channel about 5 mins after the programme
has started and has the annoying sky graphic on it for a few mins

You must have the 750, the 760 works fine, I have both.

Does the sky+ box record from when the programme starts or from
when it THINKS it starts.

It depends on the EPG information sent by the broadcaster, ITV are notorious
for poor timekeeping so you need to add padding to record what you want.
3. Does it record in 5.1 or is that only if
you watch at the time. 4. What sort of digital connection is needed
optical or coaxial and do sky provide this as part of the installation

5.1 is recorded, an optical lead is required. (not supplied)

Thanks for any help you can provide

I have just realised that in twelve months I've never recorded an ITV
program
Jeez, must remember that!
