Default Sky + slow response

Can anyone please help ? My Sky + decoder is on a go slow. Whenever I press
a button on the remote there is a delay of 4/5 seconds before something
happens. The problem is worse in the Sky + area (i.e. deleting recordings
adding new recordings etc.). I also often get a blue screen for around 20
seconds when changing channel. I've changed the batteries, but it makes no
difference. Is there anyway to 'reset' the machine (it's a first generation
Sky + Pace).

Switch it off at the mains, wait for a few secs, switch back on again.

There is hidden menu option to do a full reset which nukes everything on the
disc and then restarts, that might be worth a try. If that doesnt work,
sounds like you need to call the engineer.

This will erase all your recordings but then again if you call the engineer
he'll probably do this first anyway;

(I think this is right, its from memory)
page across to 'Services' at the top then,
4 0 1 select (nothing will show up until you press select)
then choose item 'full system reset' or similar wording.

It worked for me once after the box crashed and then started behaving
strangely.

BTW, did I mention this will erase all your recordings :-)

I had the same problem and Sky eventually sent an engineer who replaced my
box and it cost me £65 as I was out of warranty!!!

Lucky I had watched nearly everything on it otherwise I would have lost
everything without a VCR backup.

'New' box working fine now. Suspect that it is a reconditioned one, tho (

Warranties are nonsense. UK consumer law requires that all items sold
should be fit for the purpose for which they are intended (ie a Sky+
should record and playback reliably) and that they should last for "a
reasonable time". One year is not a "reasonable time" for anything
that costs more than a few pounds. A £200 Sky+ should last for several
years, perhaps up to 7.

If you had taken the matter to court you would have got a new box for
free. You probably would have got a new box for free had you just
threatened to take it to court also.

SNIP

Yeah I had to do mine again over the weekend!

I have a 120GB drive and when it gets to about 25% free slows down
considerably!

This is now the second time I have had to do the "housekeeping", and I`m
terrible at ironing! :-))

Still I suppose its my fault for recording everything and never getting
around to watching anything!

Do all 120Gb drives have this problem or is it just particular brands?
