I've moved into a new house and phoned Sky for the £1 install offer (as the
website kept crashing). The Customer Service guy told me that I couldn't get an installation as the previous owners were Sky customers and had not paid their bill, so the house is Blacklisted by Sky. I asked the CS guy what could be done about it and he said "Nothing, sorry". I've phoned Sky 3 times and have been told that there is nothing they can do. Is this correct?? Why should I be unable to subscribe because someone else didn't pay a bill???? |

This SHOULD be nonsense.
I work in finance and, some years ago, people would often get turned down for credit because of family members or previous residents. These days it doesn't happen AFAIK as the companies like Equifax that store our credit info are much more sophisticated than before. Kick up a fuss, complain, whatever - it doesn't make sense and it certainly isn't fair. "stu" wrote in message ... Dunno!
All I know is I haven't come across this in a long time. Really? Why did a regular £2 search to both them and another one who does the same thing (currently going through a re-mortgage so this was required) turn up several other people with the same surname at addresses I've never heard of? Sure I can write to them if I need to, to have them remove those people but why are they there in the first place if it's such a "more sophisticated" system? -- |

Because they have, in effect, soiled your character and credit rating you need to threaten some sort of legal action to put it right. A few years ago Barclaycard sent me a letter saying that due to my long membership and creditworthiness with them they were offering me a Gold card. Just fill in the acceptance form and it will be on its way. Well, I did - and they denied me one. I hit the roof and threatened them with legal action because they invited me to accept a pre-approved offer, then stained my credit rating by refusing it for no good reason. I received a grovelling letter of apology saying it was all a mistake, and the new card. Even though you don't have 'credit,' as in a credit card, from Sky, you have a credit rating. Your credit rating is a valuable asset and Sky is soiling it by blacklisting you. You shouldn't let them walk all over you. MJ |
