A friend of mine had his V1 ex Sky Sub card switched off yesterday.
Now getting "This card is no longer authorised, please contact the broadcaster" on all encrypted
channels.

That's rubbish, cards aren't being switched off one at a time.

Or he "Pouted" ?

No, not yet. (He cancelled his Sky Sub 2 years ago, then moved house, so
that would be no good for a "202" series 'replacement' card). He will try Pout
now, as a fresh subscriber.

still not back .......... how long was it away last time ????............

One day.
This longer spell might be a sign that Sky have been forced to
stop showing the banner or they never intended to cut off the FTV
channels and were just trying to get as many people as they could to
subscribe.
Now with the government back from their hols they have to leave FTV
channels alone, for the time being that is.
