Hi,
In article , wrote: has anyone successfully got a 160 Gb hard drive working in a version 1 sky + box ??? if so which one.....ie make and model number ??? I think the BIOS (or some component at least) will only support up to 120 Gig. Andy |

Guys has anyone successfully got a 160 Gb hard drive working in a version 1 sky + box ??? I have no idea, but a word of advice. Make very sure that you get confirmation from a reliable source (preferably more than one) before trying it. I say this because most (all?) early IDE interfaces (that's the inteface to the drive) have a limitation that they can only address the first 128GB of the drive. I did read a while back on some Sky+ upgrade pages that 128GB drives seemed to work but once the system filled up and tried to write beyond the 128th GB on the drive, the Sky+ locked up completely and a total reset (including re-initializing the drive) was required to get it back. I'm not prentending to be an expert, but I offer the above just as a word of caution to check your facts very carefully. If someone says they got a 160GB drive working, check that they filled it full and the Sky+ box stayed alive. - Julian P.S. I just noticed you said version 1 of the Sky+ box. That makes it all the more likely that you probably have an old IDE implementation. |

Yes. I would also want to see confirmation from several people that such a drive was working properly before buying one. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
