"Stefan" wrote in message ... I think Sky should give us Video on Demand asap, i saw this in the USA and it is great. HBO, Showtime and the movie channels have this (Time Warner Cable). You just go to the VOD channel and pick a movie or whatever and watch it. it's not like PPV it is included in the subscription and i guess the movies are stored on your system cause u can fast forward or rewind or pause the movie or show . VOD really gives people choice and makes u feel like your getting something for your money. Now u have to watch the same movies all the time and they r usually on when u r not able to watch them. If Sky's customers are silly enough to pay the £3.75 for the current system (on top of their monthy subs), why would Sky change their system. S |

True VOD (as opposed to Sky's same film every 15 minutes) is "limited" to cable. Sky is not a cable broadcaster. |

I do rent from blockbusters and use postal DVD rental firms like movietrak, and also buy many from cd-wow, play and amazon, and all this comes in at much less than a Sky sub a month, but there are still those evenings when for convenience I would buy a PPV movie Chris |

I would be absolutely delighted if you can tell me where in the UK I can buy a brand new boxed TiVo. www.tivo.co.uk doesn't seem to have been updated for about a year. In article ,
says... I still think that having a list of movies to be played whenever u want @ no extra cost per movie is the best. And not just movies also shows etc... But as was pointed out earlier in this thread, if enough people are paying out nearly £4 per standard PPV film, why would Sky bother with VOD? They'd certainly charge a premium for it. -- Dom Robinson Gamertag: DVDfever email: dom at dvdfever dot co dot uk /* http://DVDfever.co.uk (editor) /* 940 DVDs, 259 games, 33 videos, 67 cinema films, 69 CDs, laserdiscs & news /* star trek nemesis, bringing down the house, phone booth, human nature "Your eyes, they take me... to eternity." - Natalie Imbruglia, Identify |

You can still find the odd new Tivo if you look very hard and they are still selling subs, AFAIK. I have devoted myself to some very intensive research as it is Friday afternoon:-) The only source that I can find is Ebay & then they are pretty pricey (circa 300GBP). There are a couple claimed to be new & unused but I'm not sure how I would stand warranty wise if I bought one. I saw a comment from someone recently who had just bought a new boxed Tivo in a branch of Dixons or similar. I'm sure that the odd one must still be lurking in small TV shops here and there. I didn't say that they would be easy to find on the web. My researches have made me more interested as I found references to downloading TV guide information from Tivo without a subscription or perhaps more honestly grabbing XMLTV data, reformatting it & uploading to your Tivo. Even if possible I doubt that it is worth the trouble. Just get the lifetime sub. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
