I'm glad that it is to be made easier for us to access subtitles. With a
small baby in the house, sometimes subtitles can become incredibly handy
at a moment's notice.

Add to wishlist:

Subtitles that are always available on "888", not digibox-generated so they're
recorded on top of the programme.

Kids take a long time to learn the meaning of the word "quiet".

Sometimes it's handy to be able to record the subtitles. Call me sad if
you wish, but my videos of recent Eurovision Song Contests just wouldn't
be the same without them. :-)

I agree about recording subtitles, but I have a Panasonic NVFJ710 which can
record the analogue '888' stream and play back at will. The TiVo does the same
for some channels, although ITV and C4 doesn't pass through correctly (EVER)
for some reason, whereas some of them can be hit and miss.

I don't understand why, since the 888 subs are there on C4 (have they been
removed from ITV now?), they don't appear on the TiVo. Are they, to coin a
British Rail (of whatever they're called) phrase, the wrong type of subtitles?

It seems to be down to the way that the different channels transmit
subtitles. Even on analogue (let's not even go near digital since
that's different again) the BBC, ITV and C4 all transmit their
subtitles in slightly different ways - ITV in particular doesn't send
a "this subtitle is over" code which is not strictly necessary but
confuses computer-based teletext chips (and TiVo) if it's not there.

That said, it's more TiVo's fault for not testing the feature properly
- or possibly not acting on the bug reports from the testers...

Perhaps he means the search and scan banner? This could be made
semi-transparent on the lines of the BBC digitext news pages.

That was what I meant, sorry for the ambiguity.

There isn't a way to immediately know, on the search and scan banner
how much of a program you've missed.
It'd be nice if there was something other than just "NOW" shown.

I suspect you probably know this, but (assuming you're actually watching the
channel for which the S&S banner is displaying details) you can press the
"info" button, and it will tell you there when the program started. The
"NOW" display is rather irritating though.

Please can someone post the substantive details here? I refuse to

waste
my bandwidth visiting the above website.

Reading into that, Sky are just improving their already pretty secure
encryption in return for shabby software whilst there's the usual moan

over
getting the government to force FTA channels to PAY for FTV cards.
Problem is FTA means FTA not FTV..So why should FTA channels be forced to
pay Sky a penny?
If Sky can't give it's box owners the free channels that are free on any
other platform then that should tell the customer to ditch the Sky box!

I think it's been mentioned, but I'd like to be able to get the info on the
next program, I find it irritating that I have to wait until the program
starts before I know what episode it is, i know i can go to the tv guide,
but thats extra buttons!
Also a Red Button Yes/No option
Also Channel Logo Yes/No option ;-)

And a "SHUTTHE****UP" button for Sky One's Claire Sturgeon (along with any
other continuity announcers).

Oh, and a "DONTSCRUNCHUPTHEENDCREDITS" button.

And a button to make the DOGs invisible (ALL of them, not just the red dots,
including UK Gold's ******* annoying "7 days to Carry On Weekend" - the latest
in a long line of these)

I found a great fix to these three.

I unsubscribed the ****ers.

I'd prefer another option for the time it remains on screen - currently
it's either 0, 5, or 10 seconds. For me, about 2 seconds would be ideal.

Yes, I know.
It just makes it lots harder when channel surfing to find out if some program
you might find interesting has just begun, or is half way through.
Thanks.
Pressing + lots of times is easy, pressing + info + info, ...
