Default digibox and CLI

Yes. Even if you connect the phone there is no CLID requirement for
regular subs. In theory you aren't supposed to do this though: the
T&Cs forbid it.

i am curious to know if sky verify the box is connected to a phone line by
checkking the CLI number or just checking the box information (if the latter
i could presumably withhold the CLI number at the house the box is moved to)

Two points. First, You can't withhold CLI from anyone. Your CLI is
always sent when you make a phone call. All you can do, is add a flag to
the call which indicates the CLI is not to be presented at the
terminating end.

You are correct that CLI is sent through the network and the flag at
the terminating end decides whether to pass it to the called party
equipment or not.

Second, SKY is a telecommunications company and as such are free to act
on the CLI information regardless of the withhold flag.

This is wrong - certainly as far as their subscriber services are
concerned. They do not get withheld CLI if you have withheld on your
line by default or use 141 in the digibox.

This is how they can, and do, check the CLI is the same for both boxes
operating under a discounted subscription scheme.

On my two mirrored boxes I presented different CLI - even though the
boxes were in the same house. I spent a lot of time arguing with
BSkyB that both boxes were connected to the same line - they were -
but using different analogue ports on a business highway circuit.
These ports presented different CLI. I then made both withheld and
the engineer at Sky was able to see this on his system - and therefore
couldn't confirm what line the boxes were connected to. I then
connected both boxes to another line which uses a presentation number
(presents 0870) and he was happy with that. His system could not tell
what the real underlying number was. Now I have both boxes using the
same presentation number but connected to two different lines in two
different properties. Until BSkyB are able to determine the real
underlying CLI the use of presentation numbers is a practical way to
run mirrored subscriptions from different addresses.

OK so this is the plan - moving to Netherlands soon, want to watch FTV. can
anyone point out any floors in the plan, thanks

1. take out new Sky installation under 1ukp offer in rented accomodation

2. give box and new card from new install to friend who has box and FTV card
(previuosly subscription); and take friends box and FTV card to Netherlands

3. tell sky i have moved from rented accomodation to friends address

4. drop down from world package to family (or whatever) after one month

Hmm. Depends on how many stories that Dutch house has.

No problems there but why not just subscribe in your name directly
from the friend's house? The new box and dish will be installed there
and you can take the old one: but bear in mind that if his old card
isn't a series 2 card then it won't get you the FTV channels for long
anyway.

And why not just buy a used box and series 2 card in a car boot sale?

Can anyone have a different presentation number on their line then ?

is this a joke or are you making a serious point in relation to the
installation!!

assumed it was only one free box offer per household

The only stipulation is that the line must be a business line. My
firm pays for the line and the presentation number, I simply plug the
digibox into it!

I believe it was a joke because you said "floors" instead of "flaws". I'm
sure we all knew what you meant though.

It's a joke following on from your mis-spelling of "flaws".

You constitute a different household.
