Default Can any Sky boxes be modded?

Is it possible to install our own EPG and stuff like that?
Probably not as I can't find anything about it on the net.

No.

You don't happen to know the technical reasons why not do you?

The Sky game pad plugs in there I think, and probably factory testing.

I see no reason why you couldn't, if you were sufficiently aware of
the box's hardware and had the ability to blow it into the unit. .
After all, look at the Dr Overflow software for the Nokia boxes.

That's true enough but anyone who needs to ask the question is
unlikely to be competent enough to write a new OS.

Of course something like that might be possible.
But given the proprietary nature of Sky's OS, and their closely guarded
encryption mechanisms, it would probably be very hard going to mod it in a way
that it would still fully function as a regular Sky box afterwards.
And it would take a heck of a lot of reverse engineering to find out what and
how to mod it in the 1st place.

Why on earth would I want to write a new OS anyway?
No point in doing it the hard way if it's already been done and is available
for download.
