Default FTV question

Hi All
Looked at the postings in the newsgroup and am a little confused:
We have been on holiday for 3 weeks and it looks like there has been some
sort of development.
We are located on a Scottish island and cannot get freeview so we have a BBC
card for FTV channels.
We need this because we can only just view annalogue on 2 channels.
Question:
Since Iam getting a message saying we are about to loose some channels, will
the card stop working and do I have to subscribe to Sky?
Thanks in advance for all answers

Hi Cameron,
have a look there :
http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/dsat_card_index.shtml
Basically all FTV cards will cease to work.

Hi Les - same here, small island NE - lose channels with the tidal changes
so have to rely on satellite - see 'FTV Cards Switched off ??' thread - I
have written to almost everyone I can think of - Ian Carmichael is also
looking at the problem - Mick

Thanks, rang sky and they say the same but they wont give me a date for
"switch off" so I will wait as long as I can, the effect it will have on me
is that I will loose all TV as the reception here is not watchable.
The ITC say "most" viewers can now get freeview. hmmm they should come here
and watch it!!
It bugs me I have to have a TV licence for an unwatchable signal plus pay
SKY to watch a program covered by the Licence.

Two things:

The cards aren't being "switched off" - the old encryption method is
simply stopping being used.

The BBC is now FTA on DSat - you don't need any card to see their
channels. Complain to the tight-fists at ITV about their refusal to fund
the FTV cards.

After advice on here I have written to Zee TV for details on subscriptions
to them - might as well have Indian channels I do not want so as to get FTV
channels as pay sky just to get the ftv service. Could always stop paying
the tv licence and use that to pay for the ftv, the licence man would have
to get his own boat to catch us. - Mick

I would be concerned as to whether these asian sub cards will indeed
provide the FTV channels.

Personally I think that I would rather get a Sky+ and pay £10 for that
and the FTV channels.

That page does not give any sort of time frame for the series 2 cards.
It just mentions the next encryption change. This could be some time
in 2008, based on historical precedence.

Exactly how I read it.
