Default Look North problem (NE news)

when it come's on my TV, it shift's to the left so I have a little back bar
on right, same on TV downstairs, but goes back to normal for say BBC
national news / after program.

anyone else having this problem?

It's because most regions don't have widescreen facilties yet - so instead
they just zoom in the 4:3 picture to take up most (but not all) of the
widescreen frame. There's actually black bars on both sides, but due to the
way most TVs scan a lot of the time you'll only see the one on the right.
It's the same thing BBC News do to 4:3 material coming in from America etc.

If you look at the regions with the newest transmission centres (London,
South East and East Midlands) you'll see they're broadcasting in widescreen.
As the other regions upgrade, it'll disappear.

Yes. It's some sort of bollocky transmission format. It used to do it
on BBCi when I went to the local region too.

Can someone technical explain why it happens, and when the BBC will fix
it.
