Default latest on my Living tv/bravo problem

As posted in during the week, losing Living TV and
Bravo.

I still haven't sorted it out yet but something new has
happened.

Today it rained, Living and Bravo were breaking up
but all other channels are fine.

I've been losing Living and Bravo all week, total loss
of signal when it's dry and breakup when it rains.

So now what could it be?

Matt

Strange, do you mean that there is no signal in dry weather but poor
signal in rainy weather ..??

Its normal to lose signal i bad weather and the problem is worse
if the antenna is small (minidish?) or antenna is bad pointed.

I guess you are inside UK or else you would probably have given your
location.
Anyway if you live outside UK it is often a problem with southbeam in
north of Europa (and perhaps north in UK/Scotland) because the northbeam
will
be much more powerful compared to the southbeam. In Oslo Norway
the southbeam is 10dB lower in EIRP compared to the northbeam. In this
situation with nothbeam neighbour transponder and northbeam transponder
at the other polarisation the southbeam transponder could suffer. It means
effectively that
the isolation between the two polarisations is sometimes reduced by 10dB
which
means that the "skew" gets even more important.

Some receivers have big problems when the neighbourtransponders is
far more powerful.

In southern Europe they have the same problem with the northbeam.

water getting into the cable?

If that was the case I would lose more channels, it's only the
3 channels on transponder 2A which go down.

As for dish setup, it was checked when sky+ was installed
and this problem has only just started. A new card arrived
recently and then it all started. If the dish was out of line I
would be losing more channels. I suppose it could be the
LNB but I don't really want to get Sky out to check it till
I have worked out the real problem.

The dish is not a minidish, I've had Sky for years and this
is really the first serious problem.

Sadly no one else seems to have this problem, perhaps no
on watches or records programs on Bravo or Living TV.
This is why I'm posting so others can tell me if they have
the same problem.

Matt (UK Near Croydon Surrey)

I record MacGyver every weekday off of Bravo with no problems
and no problems watching Living either but they lost me as a viewer
when they plastered all manner of text and logos over Charmed which
ruined my viewing experience.

You say you do not have a minidish, what sort of LNB do you have as
there are differences between models and some are more suited to the
minidish instead of a standard 60 or 80cm oval.
I wonder if there might be some cable damage, water ingress could cause
the cable to have problems with some carrying some frequencies while
leaving others intact.
Perhaps a tuner fault which at this stage is only being seen on channels
broadcast on the 2A(2) frequency, have you tried your SKY+ on another
dish?

I don't have another dish to try sadly and I have used the hidden menu
to rescan all the channels on Astra which sky tech asked me to try. I
also checked the inputs. I do remember that a QUAD LNB replaced
my standard LNB when sky+ was install not long ago. The only thing
I haven't looked at is the LNB itself.

I didn't mean put up another dish, just take the SKY+ round to a friends house
who has SKY and see if you can access the two problematic channels using a
single feed from their dish
There are certain LNB's that are designed for the shape of a SKY minidish, others
which suit a standard large oval so it's not beyond the bounds of probability that
you've been fitted with one of the Philips Quad LNB's meant for a minidish which
is underperforming when fitted to your dish.
However that doesn't mean it's at the root of your problems but it's certainly
something to be considered if/when you ask for warranty work.

Duff cable and/or duff LNB and/or water ingress.
