I've been home this week, taking a break from the rat race.
This week I've had a few problems with sky+ , the new card is in the box. I recorded Providence on Hallmark 10:00am but I lost the signal during the recording. During the recording I was watching yesterdays edition of Providence. When I lost the signal I had a message saying I could not watch any recordings when there is no signal. HUH? That's ****ing stupid! So if you have no signal on any channel you CAN'T watch anything you have recorded on the box. I have had signal problems with LIVING TV and Bravo this week. On Monday I recording CSI on living and only got 9 minutes. I recorded a couple of programs after CSI which were I couldn't view because of an "Unknown" message. 2 resets have been done today on my box and I even tried ringing sky but I was in a queue and a message said my call would be answered in 40 minutes. There is NO WAY I can find out if sky are having problems, no status page on their website. SO I have no idea if it's my equipment at fault or if sky are having problems. All this since the new viewing card - HELP!!!!!! Matt |

Yes it is infuriating when you are a genuine subscriber and you have to suffer due to security concerns because of previous piracy problems SKY have had. This requirement had been part of the SKY+ system since launch, it's a design feature not a fault or bug in the OS. However if you are losing the signal on a regular basis you should consider having the dish alignment, LNB skew and cable condition checked or even moving to a larger zone2 dish. Mike C |

Mike C I was on the sky+ trial not that long ago so everything was checked, okay it has been raining but that isn't a problem normally. I have a feeling that the LNB could be playing up but I will not get it checked unless the problems get worse. The only channels I lost was living and Bravo, funny thing was that I lost bravo but I could still get bravo+1. Matt |

I'm not doubting you're right, but surely that's what the viewing card is there for? Sky must have been able to come up with a system that interrogates the viewing card to check you're paying subs for Sky+. They could even make it box sensitive like the premium channels so you can't take your card from one box to the other. Adam. I have often wondered why the need for an active satellite connection to view cached bitstream data streaming off the hard drive and then into a Videoguard decoder enabled with a valid smartcard. There must be more to the function than a simple check of the access rights that a smartcard carries alas I do not know enough about Videoguard to even hazard a guess what that might be. Perhaps it's just a half arsed extra layer of protection dreamt up at the last minute by NDS, PACE or SKY which if so achieves nothing except ****ing off genuine subscribers who even if it's only once in a blue moon expect to be able to view recorded data when they choose not when the weather dictates! What Sky consistently forget is that they are there to serve the viewer, not the other way around. Given the total absence of competition there is nothing to remind them of this simple fact. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. You're way off. You need a satellite connection so that you can't "avoid" Sky removing your rights to view if you cancel a part of your subscription. Dave -- Email: MSN Messenger: |
