BBC Process complete

Process complete all channels now in the clear as of 11:42

Rumour ITV to follow suit by 31st July inc. ITV2

It would surely be in ITVs interest to also go FTA and forfeit the monies
owed to SKY. Surely it would benefit ITV and its advertisers if it is
available on all FTA platforms. What have the to lose, only viewers if they
stay tied to a card for the next 18 months???

They have a contract with Sky so would have to pay up in any case. They can't
just renege on the contract. Don't forget that ITV were the last terrestrial
channel to appear on satellite so presumably were aware that they were losing
viewers before.

I suspect that eventually some solution for FTA/FTV will be found. The
advertisers aren't going to be too happy at losing viewers.

Europe while it is only licensed for broadcast to the UK.

That's highly unlikely. It is certainly not illegal.
The French have done it for years.
The Germans do it, the Italians do it.
So BBC and (hopefully, soo) ITV are in good company.

We need a different understanding of Europe rather than looking at
stupid national boundries.

BTW, are you aware that BBC 1 and 2 are relayed in 90% of the
Netherlands by means of analogue cable?

For which the Netherlands and other Benelux cable companies (and
ultimately the subscribers) pay the BBC for. It is technically possible
for ITV and C4 to also be available, but they have not cleared their rights
to do so.

If the BBC can do it, then so can ITV. If they both successfully
manage it then C4 and C5 would surely copy them.

It just remains for a deal to be reached with the program
suppliers. It could be that the extra cash demanded might not be as
great as you seem to think. Let's see what happens.

As long as the extra costs for FTA rights, are less than the fee
charged by Sky for encryption, added to the loss of advertising revenue from being
unavailable in FTV/A satellite homes, then ITV, 4 and 5 would go ahead.

They certainly will not, if it is deemed 'uneconomic'. They're there to make a profit,
by delivering an audience to their advertisers. Nothing more than that.

Its not complete, BBC Parliament has not moved yet ...

BBC Parliament has always been FTA and will remain on Astra 2A as there is
no rights issues.
