Default Why doesn't RGB from Digibox drive my PJ?

Hi,

I spent ages tonight making up a nice set of leads to connect my Pace
digibox to my PJ. I took the relevant pins from the Scart plug (Blue GND -
3, Blue Sig - 5:Green GND - 7, Green Sig - 9:Red GND - 11, Red Sig - 13) and
connected them to 3 separate phono plugs the PJ end. I set the Pace box to
output RGB (which it does - my TV sees that).

I then removed the old TV scart and connected my nice new one with the phono
end at the projector connected to the relevant R,G and B coloured sockets.
The PJ won't lock up at all unless I tell it that the Green signal is
Composite PAL - then I get a shaky monochrome input. I CAN set the Sky box
to composite out and rewire one of the cables to the correct pins (17 -
video ground and 19 - video out) and that works OK on the composite video
input on the PJ but the picture quality is not up to RGB standards.

The PJ has Composite Video inputs (VIDEO/Y, Cb/Pb and Cr/Pr jacks) and also
a set of 5 BNC input jacks which can handle "Y, Cb, Cr or Y, Pb, Pr or Green
Blue Red, Horiz Sync and Vert Sync".
See this pic http://tinyurl.com/69lgu

I thought (wrongly it seems) that if I feed it with R, G and B from my Pace
Box, one of these inputs would work. Is it anything to do with the
'Blanking' pin on the Scart?

Any help greatly appreciated as I don't want to feed the PJ composite from
the Sky box. Picture's poor enough as it is. I want to feed it with nice
RGB and have the PJ lock up and be nice to me!

Cheers

Rolo

Component voltage ranges are different to that of SCART RGB. If your
pj can use either, there may be a menu option for it, bit if it
doesn't, you may get an 'out of range' error message or similar.
You'll need an RGB to component adapter from Keene or similar I think.
Tried S-video? It may be a reasonable compromise.

It would look like you are trying to send the RGB output from the Digibox to
the component inputs on the projector.
And as you've found out, this won't work!
RGB and component video signals are not compatible. But one can be converted
to the other.
JS Technology do a RGB to component converter - but is costs £145.
They also do an RGB to S-vid converter at £75 - see here
http://www.js-technology.com/

Another way to get Sky onto your projector, and what I did, is get a Grundig
Digibox with an S-Vid output. I picked up a GDS3000 second hand on eBay for
£16. And to be honest, the PQ from Sky is more than acceptable.

Just because they have similar names of colours doesn't mean they are the
same type of signal.
You need to convert the signals using a box of gubbings (technical term),
not just connect them via leads.

Sounds like it might a an issue with sync signals (RGB derives it's sync
from the composite signal). A simple solution might be to simply connect
the composite signal from the SCART output to the H/V sync input on the
projector, and your RGB phonos to the RGB inputs. (You'll need 4 BNC to
phono adapters)

If this doesn't work, then take a look at the circuits on:
