Of course, I could be wrong if this isn't a recurring charge and DVDPacific has been loose with
their security again. My bank reckons it's a recurring charge though. I have destroyed any other
card info I had at DVDPacific just in case.

My CC details say "XXXX XXXX" in the CC number, is this normal?

Yes, they started doing that after the security lapse. Tis normal.

I guess I could enter crap numbers into the CC field, only when I plan to purchase anything change
it to the correct numbers, then back again to crap once I bought the items.

I just messed about with the numbers/names etc. Saved fine.

My point is, card issuers [Visa anyway] can't stop a company recharging

your account (doesn't matter
if you change your card/number) until they have done a full investigation

and then passed it to
Visa's handling company. I was told this could be 90 days.

This is why so many people have been getting hit again -it's just a

repeat of August's charges. It's
recurring and will be again next month if Visa (not your bank) don't get

their finger out and stop
wbsale.com and the others involved.

I've not cancelled my card as there's absolutely no point. I put a

temporary block on it and told
their investigations dept to phone me so I can ask why it's taking so

long and why they didn't stop
the 2nd charge themselves (which they can't actually do -but they could

of informed me).

How can the charge recur if you have completely changed your details? Won't
they just get an invalid card number error when they try to submit a charge
to your old credit card number?

As they (wbsale.com etc) have an agreement with you for a continuing charge (that's the fraud) your
bank is obliged to move that charge to your new card.

It's only a new bit of plastic with a new number. It's the same account with your bank (or you'd
need to apply for a new account).

We're all fully covered under UK/EU law. That ain't the point. The banks have known about this for
nearly 2 months and have done **** all about it.

When I spoke to them 9 August they said they could not 'close' my old credit card or any charges to
it -they would look at charges on an individual basis. This is true because I've had charges and
refunds moved from my old card to my new card.

=don't cancel your new card. IMO.

I have another £300 charge this morning -on a NEW reissued card with a NEW number.

Phoned my bank and they've said they will have to block the card again but they could NOT stop
further charges from wbsale.com (or anyone else) if it's a 'recurring charge'. They offered me
ANOTHER new card but admitted any charge to my original card would STILL appear if it was a
'recurring charge'. "So what's the point of issuing it"? I asked the guy. It's "One of 3 options".
I asked "What's the other 2 options?" - he said "Not blocking the card" and "Do nothing and use
the card as normal". Not great options.

They've said it could take 90 days to sort. I'm still waiting on my old £280 refund which has not
been given back and has never appeared online but they 'have a copy of it'. How the ****ers can
charge me when I can't see the charge is beyond me.

Looks like I'll be stopping using Egg.com as they have been ****ing about with this since 8
August.

www.dvdpacific.com has caused me a lot of bother lately.

Righty tighty. Just off the blower with the VP at Fox...I mean Egg Investigations.

They are now saying that wbsale.com did not set up a recurrent charge and that the only way they
could of gotten my new card number was they went back into my DVDPacific account and pinched it once
I updated my card number. That's a bit worrying if true.

The guy new all about DVDPacific and was very well versed with the dates. Personally I ain't got the
time to work out the dates but I could of swore when I re-entered my new card details they were
hidden as "XXXXX XXXX" etc.

Also of course I changed my password as requested to do so by DVDPacific.

Which I'm just going to do AGAIN -and remove all other card details until I'm satisfied DVDPacific
have a complete hold of this.

My 2 refunds are being made today which is good news and they're sending out a new card and
cancelling the old one.

My point is, card issuers [Visa anyway] can't stop a company recharging your account (doesn't matter

the 2nd charge themselves (which they can't actually do -but they could of informed me).

I had this same **** a few years ago with Barclaycard when some
fraudulent charges appeared on it, phoned up to cancel the card and would
they do it? would they ****. It took 5 months of pestering them to
finally close the account, during that time several more fraudulent
charges were made to the card and they said issuing me with a new card
wouldn't make a bit of difference because charges to the old card would
still apply - well great, so much for CC security.
They did refund me the fraudulent charges which is the only good thing
about the situation, but you'll never see me getting another Barclaycard
after the crap they gave me. To top it off the week I finally got the
card 100% cancelled they sent my mum & brother Barclaycard pens with
signup forms for if they wanted to join! talk about cheeky...

They did tell me that the reason that charges to the old card are carried
through even after the old card is 'dead' is because too many people
abused the CC system in the past, paying for ongoing services and then
cancelling the card & getting a replacement when they've had enough.

So this "fraudulent use of card, CC won't cancel card" mess because a
bunch of arseholes decided to abuse their credit cards.

Personally, i'll never touch DVD Pacific again. I never received an email
from them - the only way I knew about the security problem was via these
newsgroups, and my card was debited shortly after the amount of $430 by
wbsale.com.

Had to cancel my card/get a new one etc. I've had my refund, but what really
p'ed me off was the fact that I emailed DVD Pacific with some questions, and
they ignored my email and never got back to me.

Their customer service obviously sucks as much as their security. It's a
shame, as their proces are good. However, i'm not risking my details with
them ever again.
