Hi
I have an opportunity to get a Fujitsu P42VCA30 at a reasonably good price through some people at Fujitsu (I do some work for their computer division) but I'm having trouble getting reliable specs for it. The P42VHA20 gets some fantastic reviews but I can't get a side by side comparison of the two. Anyone used the VCA30 version? Any specs I can find seem to indicate it doesn't have component video input or a DVI interface but then the same places don't detail these connectors on units which I know do have them so I'm a touch confused. Any feedback or pointers appreciated. tommy |

The VHA30 (silver, consumer) and VCA30 (charcoal, commercial) are both Panasonic 6 series glass with AVM (faroudja) deinterlacing - very nice ![]() The VCA30 will not accept component video to try to single it out from the consumer market, and neither model has DVI because it is Panasonic based and Panasonic don't seem to be able to get DVI as we would want it! The VCA is now going for silly prices but hurry, the 31 series is out soon but being based on Samsung glass it may not be as good. I will get to see one soon though, and they have managed to keep the 4000:1 contrast ratio somehow... HTH Liam |

Forgive the ignorance but if they have the deinterlacing built in would that mean you could get the same effect as progressive scan from a standard DVD player? tommy Ahh good old Progressive Scan confusion. Basically, practically every plasma and all projectors will display an image as "Progressive Scan". It is inherent in the technology. However, the chip in the plasma that does this is usually cheap and nasty, especially since monitors were only ever used for PC display and have only recently been used as Home Cinema machines. Hence Progressive Scan players (and the name of our company!) which will do the processing using their, better, prog scan chips. So it is not necessary, but it is nice since the conversion goes on before the information is converted to analogue. However, with the Fuji and most current popular plasmas and projectors the processing is very good already so a cheap and cheerful prog scan player will show no difference in quality between when progressive scan mode is turned on, and when it's off. In fact really poor players will give a worse picture in progressive scan mode!!!!!! |
