Hi,
Just coming round to renewing my house insurance. the only problem i have at the moment is that no-one seems to cover for electrical/hifi/cinema equipment worth £15k or so? If they will do it they charge big premiums for the benefit. Does everyone here declare to the insurance companies that they have hi cost gear or "run the risk" of it not been insured in the event of a claim? Any thoughts would be welcomed... Jon |

Try Marks and Spencer! They're getting into the market and are pretty competitive. When we insured our place last summer they were not interested in individual items worth less than £4,000! Collections did not count if the loss of individual items did not impact the overall value. So, a £10,000 collection of DVD is actually just lots of individual DVDs. Lose some of them and the rest keep their value. OTHO, lose one tea cup from that rare full set ming tea service and the collection value suffers greatly becase it's no longer complete. Guy, who has neither £10,000 of DVDs or a ming tea service - really! -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Guy Dawson I.T. Manager Crossflight Ltd |

I have unlimited (yes - unlimited) home contents insurance with Barclays OpenPlan for £210 a year. It limits "high risk" to £10k - but this is jewellery, art, and computers (why computers?) There is no single item limit - apart from the high risk limit - and I don't have to list any items. It is only available to OpenPlan account holders though AFAIK Loz |

If you have to declare items (and it's best to at least have a list and some photos) then price everything individually - they shouldn't bat an eyelid at a £500 speaker, but a £3000 speaker set might raise an eyebrow. |
