Hi,
I am gonna buy me a home cinemaset ( DTS / 5.1. etc receiver and DVD player ) and some GALLO ANTHONY MICRO speakers. I have a question. Why is it that I hear that a home cinemaset is not good for music listening ? Is this usually because of the poosr quality 5 speakers and a home set in the box for 200 pounds ? If I have these speakers what set should I be buying to be able to have a good ( not high end, just a normal ) quality for home music listening ? thanx ! |

Hi,
It depends which home cinema speaker set you're talking about and what you're comparing them to. A decent home cinema speaker set will probably sound as good for music as stereo speakers that cost proportionally the same kind of amount. For example, a set of Kef eggs costs something like £700 and that includes a subwoofer. Stereo music - to my ears anyway - sounds as good through a set of Kef eggs as a pair of £100 - £150 speakers. It doesn't sound as good through the Kefs as a pair of £200+ stereo speakers. On the other hand, it still sounds a lot better than your average midi system or all-in-one home cinema system. You'll need to try it out to decide if that's good enough for you. If you want home cinema sound, buy speakers for that and then see if you're also happy with the stereo performance. If you're not, buy a pair of speakers for that purpose. Many receivers support more than one set of speakers with a switch to flip between each set. Good luck! Ian "Dr. Bukkake" wrote in message ... Hi, I have a question. Why is it that I hear that a home cinemaset is not good for music listening ? Is this usually because of the poosr quality 5 speakers and a home set in the box for 200 pounds ? I'd say a lot of it is that DVD players are not always that good at playing CDs when compared to a normal CD player. Personally I;d get a seperate CD player. Also, amps under say (finger in the air) 500 quid dont seem to do much of a job at stereo music so probably best to use an analogue connection to the amp and let the cd player sort out the music. Remember to get a sub with your gallos. I have them and they'd be pretty poor without a dedicated sub. And yes.. those all in one jobbies are just plain ****e. Dave |
