Default Philips 42pf9965 - teletext guide mode

I have just installed on these and for the first weekend, the teletext guide
function worked - I could pick
a programme from the tv schedule teletext page on various channels and it
would remind me (if the set was on),
or switch on automatically if it was off.

Since Monday, these options have been greyed out on the menus.

Philips confuse things in the manual by making this a subsection of the
Nextview guide that we don't get in the UK.
I've tried contacting Customer "Care", who keep telling me about nextview
not working in the UK, and now they
claim it doesn't work in the UK even with teletext, and suggest I only
imagined that it was working.

The only requirement in the manual is VPT compliant teletext.

I had assumed that it was something I changed in setting it up, or possibly
connecting a Sony Smartlink VCR (which
I can control from the TV, so that works), but they say it never worked in
the first place.

Does anyone have any suggestions about why it was and now isn't working
(other than the obvious that I changed something)?

Also, if anyone else has one of these, have you had any problem using "give
name" for the EXT1 to EXT 5 inputs?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It should work - but afraid no good ideas as to why it stopped. You haven't
set up a NexTViewlink provider in the setup menus have you?

Adding or removing a Smartlink / Easylink VCR will only affect the
availability of the {red button} record feature from the guide (depending on
the model this feature may not be offered for your Smartlink VCR).
Depending on the capabilities of the VCR (or DVDR) you either get no
options, "set only" option or "set & clear "option for VCR timers from the
guide.

Have you tried it on the same channel?
It seems that it also depends on how the broadcaster transmits the hours and
dates.
"16:20" will be recognised, but "16.20" maybe not (or vica versa)
Maybe try a few different broadcasters (and see how the dates are formatted)

I've tried it on all channels, and curiously, in all cases, it knows which
programme is on now (I can select "watch" for it)
but doesn't let me do anything for programmes yet to be transmitted.
Ken.

Seems that the problem is a conflict between Philips Cinemalink and Sony
Smartlink.
If I unplug the Sony, switch off and on, then the problem goes away.
If I plug in the Sony without switching off, the problem doesn't appear
until the next switch off/on.
The Philips tuner auto-detects it as a Cinemalink device, and then won't let
me change it.
With 4 SCART inputs, I can plug the Sony into a non-Cinemalink port.
(So I can either have one-touch record, or the TV Guide, but not both)
Ken.
