Default All-in-one DVD Home Cinema Package

I don't have a DVD player. When I get one I would like
to get one of those "all-in-one" units, i.e. DVD, 5.1 decoder
and speakers (like the Pioneer or Sony offerings). What is
stopping me now is that DVD recorders have now come
down in price to what I consider an affordable level so what
I would really like is an all-in-one package that has a DVD
recorder in it. As far as I can tell there is no such package
available yet. Does anyone know of one I've missed or have
any inside knowledge of any manufacturer that is planning
to launch one?

I don't think there is one yet.
FWIW you can get a better deal getting seperates. ie get a sony home
cinema package with the dvd
and the buy a seperate dvd recorder.

#This way you can look for a multiregion player version of your dvd
recorder.
#You'll get more features,.
#Peace of mind that if one breaks down you don't loose the other. (it does
happen)
#Cheaper to buy seperately than it is to buy the all in ones
#You find a better quality dvd player than an allinone.

etc etc. The only advantage to an all-in-one is it takes up less space!
Thats not as good a reason as the above!

Do you mean 5.1 decoder or amplifier? The amp is the less common built in
item.

Sorry, yes, I meant the amp too (often built into the subwoofer). There are quite
a few packages with the amp built in, but very few (or none) with a recordable
DVD.

Thanks Tom. This is an option that I am now seriously considering.
I know this will sound really wierd posted on this group, but I'm
not really very interested in home cinema, which is why I haven't
even got a DVD player yet, but it's one of those things that every
house should probably have somewhere. My thinking however is
that if I can get a home cinema package all integrated in with micro
speakers and no extra boxes under the TV (in fact the all-in-one
packages often seem to be smaller than stand alone players) then
I might as well take a step up from the built in TV speakers.

Having said the above, if I can't find something in the next few
months that (a) exists, and (b) get a decent review, then I think
I will go the seperates route. A friend has a seperate Sony
decoder and amp under his TV and it is truely tiny, not much
bigger than a thick paperback. That might be what I end up with.

- Julian.

Thanks Patrick, I'll go to my local Currys and have a look. Philips
marketing have slipped up though, I couldn't find it on their web site.
Maybe it hasn't found its way onto the .co.uk site yet.

Duh. I found it. It's the LX9000R. Unfortunately it's a higher-end
system than what I'm looking for. Right now it looks as if seperates
might be the only way to go unless I'm willing to wait. I can't believe
that by next Cristmas there won't be lots of recorder systems but I
don't think I want to wait that long

- Julian

P.S. If it's of use to anyone, here is the link to the Philips system:
