Default do i need to link up the video connecter?

Hi Everyone,

Am looking for some advice, perhaps someone can help me out.

I've got a dvd player, tv, terrestrial box and a denon avr-1604 av amp
with dolby dig speakers.

But its these connectors on the back thats confusing me. I'm not sure
wether i've got everything hooked up as well as it could be.

Heres how i've got it set up.

TV connected to the terrestrial box via scart. with the left and right
audio connectors going to the av amp. no problems here as the
terrestrial box hasn't got any more connections free on the back.

Then i've got my dvd player which i've got linked to the amp via a
digital optical cable. The dvd sound and picture works fine but im not
sure about the video out socket do i need to connect this to my av amp
too? or does using the optical cable mean that i dont need to connect
anything else up?

Perhaps you can help, have i got it hooked up the best way? it just
seems that there are loads of connectors on the back and i'm not using
many.

Thanks
Jim

The connections through the amp are for convenience switching only and
don't improve the video signal. You may use them if you find it
easier to switch sources that way - when you switch the audio source
on the amp, the video is switched. Otherwise, if you don't use them,
you have to switch on the TV as well, as you do with your box.

Often, AV amps/receivers don't provide component video switching, if
so, and your DVD player has component outs and your TV has matching
inputs, you should use them, which requires switching video source on
the TV.

Thanks For the info Gary,

I'll get a video cable and get it hooked up!

Because it is a hassle having to keep messing about turning on all the other boxes.

Thanks again
Jim
