Tivo.com has the 80 hr unit for 349.00 with a 50.00 rebate.
In this case, There In the $300-$400 as I claimed.

Yeah We all know that we can go to ebay, or other places to find them
cheaper.

Isn't that $200 _after_ $50 MIR?
Or are you talking about refurbs or something else?
BestBuy has the 40 hr for $250 with an additional $50 MIR,
bringing it to $200...

You're right. I could have sworn what I wrote was the deal
recently, but maybe I spaced then as well. It was a special
deal at tivo.com with a special link for "friends" of TiVo
users or something like that; the link may still work, but I
can't remember it right now. Whatever it was, it was quite
simple, something like www.tivo.com/sale -- and iirc (ha ha),
there was no rebate required. Wait -- I think they were
refurbs, but not from servicedvr.com, but tivo.com. Anyone
remember this at all?

In any case, they're not "$300-$400" as claimed by the
other poster.

I don't think anyone would pay $100 for an extra 40GB, when you can get a
40GB HDD for $50...

Maybe it's just me...

But we're talking about an 80GB system as a comparison, aren't we?

Then you're voiding your warrantee and you have to spend the time to do
the upgrade. I would only justify the upgrade if I'm putting in a much
larger drive, but then we're into more money.

So your multibillion dollar company could not afford to pay beta
testers? Seems to me if they continue to do business like that they wont
be multibillion dollar company for long. OTOH the only people Tivo seems
to **** off is those to cheap to pay for service.

Things that make you go Hmmm....

Actually most cable companies had people lining up to pay to be beta
testers for these.

That's apparently a very large group.
