Curious: How Much DO You Use Tivo?
 

OK, this has probably been asked a million times, and apologies for bringing
it up, but I figure there are tons of newer people on here. I'm just
wondering how many hours a day (or week if you're more normal) you record
using Tivo.
I literally don't watch ANYTHING live anymore, not even Yankee games and
it's now at the point where I'm recording anywhere from 4-12 hours a day,
thanks in great part to that damn Turner Classic Movies-just too much good
stuff on there. Luckily AMC sold out and started running commercials all
over the place and showing garbage movies, so I don't even get the listings
for that channel anymore.
Just wondered other peoples' averages.

I dont watch as much television as you but I do think the only show I
watch live is the weather channel ( sometimes I use rewind if I was out
of the room). I guess we record about 10-15 hours a week but that is all
we watch. If we watch 2 hours a night thats alot. Watch more on the
weekends during Nascar season. Some shows delete themselves before we see
them but that just meant we did not really want to see them that bad.
Also definatly watch more in the winter months.

Is this a trick question? So far as I know, my TiVo is recording 24
hours per day. Of that, about 4-6 hours is actually logged and
waiting for me to watch if/when I have time. I sometimes watch as
much as 2-3 hours a day, but average watching 2 or 3 days per week.
Lots of stuff ends up being deleted without watching eventually.

All TiVo, all the time, except for football (which I confess to pausing on
occassion). I've gotten too used to the control TiVo offers, and watching
things according to my own schedule and mood. . .not that of the networks.

I do let the "automatic" features go, since I have plenty of drive space.
So my TiVo is 'recording' 24/7. I delete most of it, but enjoy coming
across unexpected surprises. I probably wind-up watching a couple hours a
night. I have five season passes, and watch those, but otherwise it's hit
or miss.

I do an hour on the treadmill every morning, so I watch Tivo during
that time. I record lots and lots of shows that I can buzz through
in 10 minutes (X Play, etc.) My wife also does an hour, and she
buzzes through cooking and decorating shows, skipping over the
segments that don't interest her.

Our Tivo is almost always recording something, but we're not couch
potatoes...we usually only watch an hour in the evening.

Last week we were couch potatoes, though. We've been renting the
second season DVD's of "24." That's a really addictive show, and
we've had some nights where we've watched all 4 episodes on the disc.

That's ok, though. The DVD is Dolby Digital, and there's no FOX logo
on the screen. :-)

Damn this thread! Makes me realize I watch way too much TV. I have ~40
season passes and an upgraded 144 hour capacity that has never deleted a
thing without me telling it to do so. I would say I watch maybe 4 or 5
hours a day. Of course we have no kiddos :)

It is funny to flip through the shows that are scheduled to record. I
always attribute most of it to my work, and that I have to watch most of
it-but in reality I don't need to.
But what's really embarassing is how programmed I am to Tivo now, and it has
become part of my psyche. It first started with my reaching for the car
stereo to go back 7 seconds-which doesn't exist!
But what really did me in, and the wife caught me doing this: We were at
that Johnny Depp Pirate movie and I couldn't understand some of the things
he was saying in the movie and at one point I reached forward for the Tivo
remote so I could flip back and catch it again... we were IN A MOVIE
THEATRE! And she saw me make the usual move and knew exactly what I was
doing. Life will never be the same now.

Yep, I've been doing that to the radio for some time now. I take for
granted that radio is live and often find myself not paying as much
attention even when I'm interested in something. I have the attitude that
if it feels important, I can simply go back in time a few seconds. Heh,
sometimes even in regular life. Damn that Tivo!!! ;-)
