WMVHD jerky on Athlon XP 2400

tried the 1080 WMVHD demos off MS hdtv website on a 2400 Athlon with 1GB ram
266MHz DDR and Radeon 9000 with WMP 9.0 XP-SP2 160Gb IDE hd

playing wmv files either off harddisk or 40x cdrom there are significant pauses
during playback, maybe a 1/3 sec pause every 5 sec or so, more or less

yet, it would seem this PC meets the specs on the MS site for WMVHD?

or not?

There is an analyzer floating around (I can't find a link now) from
Microsoft which may help you find your shortcomings. I've heard a DX9 video
card like the (cheap) FX5200 helps, but the 266MHz memory limitation could
be hurting you too. My XP2500 333MHz rates as just barely adequate in that
department and with only my old GF3 Ti200 will not quite cut it on 1080i.
720p is great though...
