Comcast buys from various sources including Motorola and SA and a few
others, I know the boxes from Motorola are assembled in Mexico!!

Is there something significant about being assembled in Mexico? Does that
make Motorola units better or worse?

I believe rcbridge's comment on being made in Mexico was made in response to
Henry Cabot Henhouse III's post in this same thread. (Rcbridge, correct me
if I'm wrong.) I don't think he was trying to make any implications on the
quality Mexican manufacturing. After all, we haven't seen any/many
complaints on _reliability_ of the boxes but I've seen plenty of complaints
about the design of the boxes and the support of Comcast!

I'd prefer to evaluate the performance, functionality, and reliability
before making that decision. I would not assume either is better or worse
without more information.

Is there someone assembling STBs in Japan?

""Is there someone assembling STBs in Japan?""

I don't know if you follow world business practices, but these days
very few products are made in Japan anymnore. Pay attention to almost
anything from a Japanese manufacturer and notice most things are made
elsewhere!!
Global economics.

That was the basis of my question. I doubt that any of the STBs are made in
Japan.

That's not true. Many higher quality electronics, if not most, are still made
in Japan. Much more junk comes out of China and Mexico. And that is no t a
knock against the Chinese or the Mexicans.
