US Open tennis HDTV
Well, that's my luck. Last year, CBS broadcast 40 hours of HDTV US Open tennis. This year, now that I have an OTA tuner, I can't find word one from CBS regarding HDTV coverage of this event. Indeed, it appears that exclusive HDTV rights have been bought by the Bravo-HD satellite network. Crap. Am I wrong? |

I haven't seen any CBS comments, but USA-BRAVO/HD showed up at channel 74 on
DirecTV. I saw no warning or promo for it, but there were some rumors in AVSforum that it was going to happen. The quality was good....I need to spend some more time looking at the SD vs HD to see if I like tennis in HD. I did think the ball was easier to follow. I'm not sure, but there may have been a delay in the audio...and it is quite disconcerting to not hear the racquet strike the ball when you are watching. One thing it did get me to do was reconverge my TV. The bright white lines on the green court showed some problems, so I took about 15 minutes to manually converge ...and things cleaned up quite nicely. Kudos to DirecTV for providing the HD content. ....hasan, N0AN "dizzy" wrote in message ... Well, that's my luck. Last year, CBS broadcast 40 hours of HDTV US Open tennis. Go to the grids on titanTV.com, change the day to Sat or Sun, CBS US Open
has a red "HD" in the box. Or go to HDTV update, change the day to Sat or Sun, the listing for CBS shows "US OPEN early rounds" -- Mike Lanzarotta Crown City Brewery ccbrew at sbcglobal dot net "dizzy" wrote in message ... However, looking at Sunday 9/5 coverage "HD" is NOT there. And worst of all, the Semifinals and finals 9/11 and 9/12 do not show "HD"! Now, that wouldn't make much sense, to show early rounds in HD but not the finals. Just an oversight? Pretty gross oversight, me thinks... |
From ILOVEHDTV.COM (HDTV Magazine):
NEW YORK, Sept 1, 2004– CBS Sports’ entire live broadcast of the 2004 U.S. Open Tennis Championships -- Saturday, Sept. 4 through Labor Day Monday, September 6, and again Friday, September 10 through Sunday, September 12 -- will be simulcast in High Definition Television, the Network announced today. While this marks the fifth consecutive year that CBS has simulcast its coverage of the U.S. Open in HDTV, this is the third year the Network will expand its HDTV broadcasts to all six days of its tournament coverage. In addition, this is the third year that the action on the Louis Armstrong Stadium’s Court 2 will be in HD along with the traditional coverage of Center Court in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Once again, a highlight of the broadcast will be the prime time women’s final on Saturday evening, September 11. In all, CBS will broadcast nearly 40 hours of U.S. Open coverage in HDTV. The broadcast will be a single production so that viewers at home, whether watching in High or Standard Definition, will see the same camera angles and hear the same action. The coverage will be produced using the highest form of Digital Television (DTV), featuring 1,080 lines of resolution (or 2.0 million picture elements). This is the same format CBS presently uses for all its primetime and daytime High Definition programming. Enjoy!
