Sony to stop making Betamax tapes
I was not aware they were still being produces. I still have a lot of used
ones here. Nothing working to play them on though. Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active Remember, if you don't like where I post or what I say, you don't have to read my posts! :-) "Sid." wrote in message ... http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/sony-say...apes-in-march/ |

I was not aware they were still being produces. As the article says, they were only being produced for the Japanese market, which surprises me even more, given that Japanese consumers would normally replace (and chuck away) all their home electronics every couple of years. The amount of stuff that was dumped on Yumenoshima Island in Tokyo Bay became a serious pollution problem. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

I can't help feeling that if the whole world had followed Japan's lead in this matter, the world be a much nicer place. -- Johnny B Good |

Not so sure, but somebody told me they saw quite a few vhs and betamax
machines in Pakistan recently. Not sure quite why or who was making them though as the average tourist is not really interested in this kind of anorak stuff. I thought VCRs were a problem in the Far East due to humidity, leading to the rise of the VCD (an inferior precursor to the DVD). -- Max Demian |

Interesting article. I can't help feeling that if the whole world had followed Japan's lead in this matter, the world be a much nicer place. Europe should have followed Japan's policy of not allowing immigrants to come in. Then we wouldn't have all these problems. My son-in-law has relatives in Japan and often visits, and he says it's far more civilised than any European country. Bill |
