Low bitrate Labour!

What on earth is wrong with the video quality from the Labour
conference? I'm watching Mr Corbyn and on both BBC1 SD and Sky News SD
the quality is shocking, really poor very low bitrate stuff. On BBC HD
News it's significantly better but still not very good.

The strap across the bottom is as clear as normal, but the actual
picture keeps freezing momentarily, blurring, etc.

How can this be?

Bill

Perhaps the normal equipment has failed and they are using Skype or
something.

The recordings Shy are showing now are the same. I wonder what went wrong.

Maybe its just that they think its just more of the same old clap most
politicians babble and so they never bother to check.

Another wild thought - perhaps it is interference from 4G phones used by
the delegates!

They use 4g channels strapped together these days for OB. Doesn't work too well when cells are congested.

Ah, yes.

I didn't know they are now using 4g. I know that 3g was used for the
Olympic Torch Relay in 2012. The use of multiple SIM cards for one video
stream was known as "3G Bonding". This gives a non-technical description
and includes the comment:

With 3G bonding technology, broadcasters have to bear in mind that
they will be sharing networks with the general public, and at a
crowded event could be competing with thousands of people for 3G.

So substitute 4g for 3g and we proably have an explanation.
