Splitter advice needed
I am thinking of replacing my PVR as it is beginning to show its age.
The one I am looking at has three tuners. The vender suggests using a splitter instead of loop through cables. I would need al least a four way, possibly a six. It is already split in the loft two ways. I still get 100/100 according to my Topfield. TIA -- Regards Dave Saville |

It it degrades reception put a little 12dB amp in front of it. But what PVR is this? Bill |

It's an up-to-three tuner receiver, with, as you say, any user
specified combination: http://www.satshop.tv/Xtrend-ET-8000...B-PVR-Receiver But not Gigabit ethernet. FFS, why the hell not???!!! 10/100Mb/s is at least a decade out of date! In article: Java Jive says... But not Gigabit ethernet. FFS, why the hell not???!!! 10/100Mb/s is at least a decade out of date! RTFM! It is Gigabit. http://goo.gl/Uymlgk -- Ken O'Meara List of UK hi-fi & audio dealers: http://unsteadyken.esy.es/ |

Thanks Bill - Can you suggest one please? Google turns up many but I can't tell if they are inductive or not. Or does it mean powered or not? Also it will need to be co-ax not F type. I've also got a real question, do these boxes handle the standard Freeview Guide, series link etc? This may be something that is part of the DVB standards, or not. Paul DS. |

Just to clarify for those who may be confused:
Ethernet 10Mb/s Fast Ethernet 10/100Mb/s Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Mb/s Most modern actual ethernet hardware seems to be Gigabit, but it seems to be a 'feature' of NMPs, STBs, etc, generally that, even if their ethernet hardware is Gigabit capable, they only actually drive it at Fast Ethernet speeds, hence the specs say the latter figure. This seems to be because many media processing CPUs can not handle the throughput of Gigabit. Certainly, that's the case with my QNAP NMP1000. It has Gigabit hardware, but only drives it at Fast Ethernet speeds, because the SMP8634 CPU cannot handle Gigabit. The impracticality of this 'solution' is demonstrated by the fact that when I am copying files to the unit, even at only Fast Ethernet speeds, it's on-screen interface becomes completely unresponsive! But, I have PCs here dating back to 2003/4, one laptop may even be older, and even they are ALL Gigabit. That's how out-of-date these Fast-Ethernet-only media CPUs are. Fast Ethernet is probably adequate for most streaming, but Gigabit makes a hell of a difference when you're transferring files en masse.
