Bizarre reception problem - any ideas?
I have discovered that I lose BBC News HD and the other COM7 stations
when the Blu-ray player is switched on. The TV shows 'No signal'. Other HD channels are unaffected. When the Blu-ray player is switched off signal strength is about 96% and quality 100% so this is not a case of marginal reception. Can a Blu-ray player interfere with TV reception? |

Com7 is much lower power than the main muxes on any Tx site, plus are you receiving Com7 from the same source as your main muxes - you don't say where you are. Blu-ray players, like most else, are just computers that think they are disc players so can radiate interference, most often from the switched mode power supply. More likely however it is being directly received either by the TV or on the aerial tail connected to it. If you are using a ready-made tail that likely has only a braid cover try replacing it with a tail made of PF100 or similar that has a foil screen as well. -- Woody harrogate3 at ntlworld dot com |

Is your Blu-ray player SCART connected? My TV will automatically switch from aerial to SCART if a particular SCART pin is raised. (I think it might be pin 8 bit I CBA to look it up). Your TV might switch like that if your player raises the appropriate pin. If your player is not at that time displaying anything on-screen, you would then get a No Signal message. When you switch off the player, the pin drops and the TV set would switch back to aerial. Jim |

My only remaining SCART connection is fed through an adaptor that has Pin 8 cut, because of this very nuisance. Unfortunately Pin 8 also handles widescreen switching so I have to do that manually, but I very rarely use it at all now, and eventually it'll go. But - have BluRay players even got SCART outputs? What would be the point of an SD output on an HD player? Rod. |

It's fairly common for TV peripherals to radiate hash that can degrade reception. Try using a good quality aerial lead, check the screen connections inside the coax plugs, check the screen connection is tight and clean, and move the aerial lead away from the player and its mains lead. It's worth trying daft things like temporarily powering the player from a mains extension plugged in some distance away, or using a longer HDMI lead. Also try moving the player about. More than once I've had to show the customer the exact position on the shelf the VCR/etc has to be to prevent interference. We find it is usually the lower powered muxes that show up this sort of fault, in fact we had one the other week where the guy was assuming he needed a a new ae for HD! Bill |

Has it got an aerial through connection, and does it record as well as
play? Otherwise I'd suggest its n just interference being radiated from its systems to the tuner or its aerial. I can remember we used to have a Sony VCR that when on it put crap on the fm band and stopped allbut strong stations being received, so its not a new issue by any means. Sony eventually modified the psu. Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active "Scott" wrote in message ... Problem there is the coax leads to the aerial and I was advised to avoid joints. Can I retrofit the foil? |
