Smith is perhaps unique for having played for three Scottish League
Championship teams without playing for Rangers or Celtic and playing
in the European Cup for them all including two semi finals.

A slightly later era, but Alan Gordon is the only man to play for
Hearts, Hibs and both Dundee clubs.

Get your Scottish football trivia here, folks. Amaze and annoy your
friends!
I was at the Cup Final he played in for Hibs. That was the afternoon I
started smoking again, Celtic 6 Hibs 1.
As an accountant he was able to keep track of the score.

1972, back when Hibs had only gone seventy years without a Scottish Cup
win. It's now at 111 years and counting - makes a Brit win at Wimbledon
seem like a regular occurrence...
It is unbelievable that they have failed so often. My father had to
wait around fifty years for Hearts to win the Cup.
The three game Final against Rangers in 1979 was the most nerve racking.
I travelled up from London for the first two and then stayed over for
the third.

I was half-listening to the radio commentary on the second replay. I got
quite excited when I heard that Arthur Duncan had scored...until the
penny dropped that it was an own goal.

A penalty saved and then a goal given away.
I think that was the night there was a tremendous downpour after the game
as we lined up to get into the station.

At least your train wasn't cancelled...I hope.

Just an uncomfortable trip back to Edinburgh.
In Glasgow I have several times been caught in worse rain than anywhere
else in the UK after what had been a nice day.

We always look at Fort William on the weather forecast and say "It's
still raining" It must be more than 20 years since we were last there.
The first time we went there almost 30 years ago it didn't rain, in
fact it didn't rain at all in the whole week that we were up there.
The second time we arrived at the end of a heat wave. It started
raining during the night. We delayed starting a boat trip to Inverness
for three days hoping the gale and rain would stop and then we gave up
and did the trip as fast as we could and went home. By the time we got
to Berwick it was sunny and warm. By the time we reached Yorkshire it
was hot and sunny.

Sounds about right:)

It has the most beautiful scenery in the world during summer and if you
happen to visit during those two days... ;-)

Fort William is worse for rain

We went to Fort William once in the Winter. In a pub I asked the barmaid
which 'hill' was Ben Nevis. She said that she did not know and was an
Aussie and had only been there for three Weeks. Next person in the
street said that he used to know but had not lived there for thirty
years and was just back for his fathers funeral.
A woman said that she thought it was 'That one'
