I noticed Jane from EE has lied to Ian about where she is and almost certainly lied to the school about her qualifications, and has not told him about her new job. Will Eastenders soon be merging with River City? or with Casualty, Holby City and New Tricks or just adding to the unemployed celebs queue. Where would UK celeb quiz shows be without EE? I remember seeing Coronation Street one time we were in Holland. You should have switched off. :-) In a foreign country one always flicks through the channels. In Belgium it had Corrie with French and Flemish or Dutch sub titles. I think Corrie is still shown on Dutch TV. In Beijing when we turned on our hotel TV it had the 1940's version of Oliver Twist showing followed by Benny Hill. The 1940s version of Oliver Twist was on UK TV recently. In Singapore I saw Karakatoa, East of Java with subtitles all the way round the image. In the middle of nowhere in Australia I saw Rosemary and Thyme for the first time. The motel was crap too In Boston I turned on the Motel TV and got Groucho Marx in a B&W quiz show. One I did not see a reason for was in Foshan, China where hour after hour on one of the few channels they showed one horse at a time running round an empty racecourse. This was in the early 80's and I doubt if China had horse racing then. It was not the track at Macau or Happy Valley. Derek |

So you aren't one of the Gay Gordons. :-) That was a respectable term when Gordon Smith played for Hibs. Smith, Johnson, Reilly, Turnbull and Ormond - the real Famous Five. Hearts had the Terrible Trio of Conn, Bauld and Wardhaugh. I had an open mind although all my relatives were Hearts Supporters. I was taken to Easter Road for the first time and Hibs beat Queen of the South 9-1. The next week I was taken to Tynecastle and Hearts struggled to beat Airdrie 3-2. No contest:-) It is difficult to pick a favourite from the Famous Five. Smith is perhaps unique for having played for three Scottish League Championship teams without playing for Rangers or Celtic and playing in the European Cup for them all including two semi finals. Like many others of his day he would work on Saturday morning before playing in the afternoon. Derek |

Two of the places where I worked have been demolished, both were a couple of years old when I worked there and were state of the art. One was a large steel works. Most of the companies I worked are no more. Two are around but now hardly recognisable. The most famous one was Feranti who succumbed to a massive sting. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/bu...i-1331200.html Derek |

My school started life as a church, turned into a school and now is owned by a small manufacturer - stained glass windows and all! Strange what has happened to churches that have closed. I have sen some converted into flats, warehouses, restaurants and a huge betting shop full of Punters praying for a miracle win. Derek |

Indeed, nothing wrong with it as such but they were the main rivals when I was a lad. I went to Broughton. Perhaps I knew them. I left school in 1950 Beat me by nine years. I presume that Broughton still exists unlike the Leith Academy I went to. Still exists but towards the end of my third year (1972) it moved to new premises at Comely Bank, across the road from Fettes. Apparently it's been rebuilt again (on the same site) since then. The old building at McDonald Road is still there but I don't know what it's used for these days (the primary school is still open). Leith Academy as you're aware is now off Easter Road, not a stone's throw from the old location. Leith Academy was a nice building. I went to an open day when it was Queen Margaret's University and most of it had not altered very much. The Boys toilets still smelt much the same. I later went there for podiatry treatment by the students. Now being converted into Academy Lofts. http://www.sundialproperties.co.uk/p...cademy-leith#1 I wonder how affordable they will be? Derek |
