I remember my first trip to Comet, it was actually 40 years ago this week.
It was a newly opened shed in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

I bought an ITT portable record player there not long after, very
similar to this one:

We bought an automatic bread machine in Comet. The female assistant
was attractive, bright, knowledgeable, helpful to the point of telling
us in front of the manager that the extended guarantee was a waste of
money. We assumed that she was on the point of leaving.

Impartial retail advice :-)

I bought an ex-display Miele washing machine from them at a good price.
Still got it. On the top of it was the Miele blurb saying how their
machines were built to last, hence the high price - unlike the opposition.
But Comet still wanted to sell me their extended warranty.

The only time I remember them being innovative was in the '70s. They
included a long warranty with TVs which included home visits if needed,
and 'free' extended credit. Making rental rather pointless.

Drove passed Comet on the way to Tesco this morning on the retail park and
Comet was closed.

Have they had a computer disaster I wonder?

It is a cash flow disaster. The website has been closed down as they are
unable to acept orders because they can't trade when insolvent.

Their advice to use vouchers isn't going to improve Comet's cash flow.

That is not the purpose. It's to avoid holders of these vouchers
losing out and having to join the queue of unsecured creditors.

The purpose of opening Comet is not just so that people can cash
vouchers.

Now you are being disingenuous. The advice did not come from Comet.
It came from the Daily Mirror. The purpose was to assist readers of
the Daily Mirror.

That was blindingly obvious. My reply was clear enough.

And blindingly obvious !
