But would you now recommend a Chinese manufactured Bosch washing machine?

Depends on the spec. China is perfectly capable of making goods to any
quality. Sadly, many makers go there simply to save money in manufacture
with a view to increasing profits.

But seriously do Bosch manufacture in China or was this a hypothetical
example?

They have washing machines made in China.

I'm willing to bet Bosch don't manufacture everything they sell with a
Bosch name on it. And likely never have.

It's the quality that matters, not who actually makes it.

So if you bought a Porsche then got home and found it was not actually
made by Porsche after all you would be perfectly happy?

Depends what you mean by 'made'. Porsche don't make all the parts that go
into their cars, and neither does any other car maker.

Acoording to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche:
Boxster and Cayman production was outsourced to Valmet Automotive in
Finland from 1997 to 2011, and in 2012 production moved to
Germany.[55]

which tends to support what you say.

I suggest a fair few people would be less than happy if they
discovered their vehicle was produced under licence in China though!

I wouldn't buy a Porsche, nor would I expect it to be made completely
by Porsche.

I would not buy a Porsche either, but would you expect it to be
assembled in a Porsche factory in Germany or 'lovingly made under the
supervision of German engineers'.

I swear by Miele. I haven't seen any evidence to prove me wrong yet.
I bought my first Miele washing machine in 1974, I sold it after 20

With AEG / Bosch 2nd

I was given a Moulinex hairdryer for my 21st, which lasted 35 years.

Sods law would say that when you replaced it you went Bald within
months.

My wife has a Morphy-Richards hairdryer from the early 60's. Although
she hasn't used it for many, many years, I believe it still works OK
(even if it does rattle a bit). However, it's not quite original. I
recall having to replace the capacitor in the mid 60s.

My skinflint friend came round here this avvy. He wanted me to repair
his battery charger. It must have been fifty years old. It only needed a
fuse. I ran it at 10A for 5 mins and it was fine.

Not noticed it yet. Only had it a day or so, of course. But there's a
new software release for it - perhaps it fixes it. The best thing for
me is that it enables the skip forwards/backwards keys, although you
can't alter the skip length, sadly.
