The point is, the northernmost point of Roman occupation was
Antonine's Wall, not Hadrian's.
Fwiw, it had stuck in my head at an early age the Romans had an
initial occupation line that stopped south of the Highland Line, where
Antonine's Wall is.
It would seem that what I was taught was wrong - there was a later
push north from Hadrian's Wall to keep the savage *******s at bay and
maybe push some civilisation down their throats, along with a sword.
Ill-fated venture that was, and they had to retreat to their lonely,
wind-swept line of rocks near Carlisle.
